While I have all the outlines finished for how everyone's family quests would go I'm admittedly still working on things with each of them!!

tbh I just love Star Trek Discovery so much for their casual representation of queer people. it's really difficult to watch anything with my family that includes same sex couples, let alone trans characters without them questioning the characters integrity or complaining how there "always has to be some kind of lgbtq character in every show these days". but Star Trek Disvovery has a gay couple and a nonbinary person in the main cast, a lesbian and a trans man in the recurring cast and various queer people in guest appearances, and my family loves Discovery and they've accepted each of these characters just like that, never once commented on the usage of they/them pronouns or Stamets and Culber being a same-sex couple.

Each one of these characters are fully fleshed out and their queerness is both an important aspect of their character while also being completely irrelevant to their role in the crew. The representation is beautifully casual: Stamets and Culber are in a relationship and that's just that, Reno has a dead wife and that's just that, Adira asks Stamets to use they/them pronouns for them and everyone just uses they/them pronouns for Adira from then on, Gray is just a boy. And apart from Gray, the queer people in the main and recurring cast are all human as well.

In the future of Star Trek queer people can just exist and it's so normalized that it's also easy to accept for an audience

"just let me know when you want it." norway's a very patient man, but he would love nothing more in this moment to make his partner take all of him. it's taking every fiber of his being to not start grinding himself on his partner's body rn

as much as he would love to just manhandle tf out of his partner, he allows them to adjust themselves onto him as they need to. it's their first time , and he doesn't want to be overbearing in any way. the most he does is stroke their hair, caress their face and plant a few kisses on their nose, forehead, and cheeks. if they're feeling insecure about how they look or about what noises they make, if any, he'll just tell them to let it all out. "d'you want me to continue?" very polite indeed...or at least for now. enjoy it while you can! ;p

"just stay there, okay? i'll do the rest..." he goes into kiss them, which soon becomes a makeout session. when you two pull away from each other, he's breathing hard and pressing himself against you. "can i?" with their consent, now it's his turn to put his hands on them. his hand slips in between their thighs, spreading them just a little bit wider. his heart is poundinggg and he can't wait to get to the part where the two of you are less anxious and significantly more desperate.

Started working on a Superman family group picture like the batfamily one I did recently, but there's not as clear a consensus on who is actually in the family

Pretty much everyone agrees that Conner, John, and Prime Kara are members. I don't think many people will argue the Irons family, or earth 2 Kara shouldn't be there. I'm 100% including the twins Krypto and Streaky. But I don't have a lot of experience with Kong Kenan and don't know if he's a beloved member or the Superman equivalent of David Zavimbi. And characters like Brainiac 5 and the Beacon have a few good Superman family stories, but seem to be largely forgotten by current cannon

December Baking 2024

My Great Aunt's Molasses Cookies - 5/5

I actually made a metric ton of cookies this month, but this was the one two batches I made by myself. This one comes straight from the fam, so I have to type out the recipe (spoilers, it seems suspiciously like the recipe on the molasses jar, but it is slightly different).

INGREDIENTS 3/4c shortening 1c sugar 1/4c molasses (we get mild) 1 egg 1/2 tsp cloves (we don't use them bc my mom hates them) 1/2 tsp ginger 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp salt 2 tsp baking soda 2c flour extra sugar for rolling

DIRECTIONS • Preheat the oven to 375ºF

• Mix shortening and sugar; add molasses and mix.

• Put egg in a separate bowl and put the dry spices into the egg. Mix together and then blend them in with the rest. (author's note: I don't really know why we do this bc mixing the spices with the egg is hard and you have to really scrape it out of the second bowl, but who am I to judge)

• Add in the flour and baking soda. (author's note: I mix these and the salt separately, like you would a normal cookie recipe, then add them gradually)

• Use a small cookie scoop to make the balls and roll in sugar.

• Bake on ungreased sheet at 375 degrees for 8-10 mins. They need to look done but not necessarily brown. Makes approx. 3 doz

NOTE: The first batch was made subbing in butter for shortening. I added ~1/2tsp of corn starch just to see what would happen, but they still spread considerably. They're much chewier than the shortening version though. Next time I might try using slightly less molasses or adding a little more flour to offset the extra liquid from the butter.

ANOTHER NOTE: The shortening cookies do come out a little crunchier, but you can do the trick where you put them in a container with a fresh slice of bread for a day or so to soften them up.

Anyway, we love these cookies. My mom makes them all the time because they make a lot, they're pretty easy, and they taste really good. Plus, they're usually something that you wouldn't see when you'd expect cookies!
